How we do the Delivery – Learning by Doing

The coaching or training sessions (which can be up to 4 people) is not a fast-paced theory programme using smart PowerPoint slide presentations and delivered by top CFOs or CAs.

Instead, what we deliver is a tried and tested, step-by-step learning process which makes a permanent impression on the learners which is not lost within a couple of days. We develop firm foundations that stand the test of time.

Learning by doing  …..

This is the best way to internalise any new skill as it helps build sufficient confidence to start using them and then extend and build these skills further.

One Step at a Time

At every stage, there are opportunities for staff to test (themselves) to confirm they’ve got each key learning point. This has a major effect on overcoming the traditional fear factor which often prevents the development of the confidence needed. Users gain a deeper understanding of the key financial issues of their own business or that of clients/suppliers. Perhaps for the first time, they will truly begin to understand the REAL importance of the financial numbers delivered by their in-house finance team.

Course Features – the how part

The course overcomes the ‘hidden barriers’ normally associated with these types of programmes. Benefits include;

  • Extensive use of gapped handouts to build concepts on a step by step basis
  • Applying Excel spreadsheets to reinforce the learning process and remove many of the numeracy barriers
  • Attendees are encouraged  use their own/company laptops
  • Attendees are able to work in groups and select case studies appropriate to their business sector
  • Utilising web-based financial information, establish and review benchmarks/ratios to help assess client’s/own corporate ‘health’.
  • Apply Excel graphics to convert sales/production/profit data into easy to understand visuals
  • Follow-ups are available to individuals. Skype/telephone additional support can also be provided.

The workshops are suitable for management and key staff at all levels, in fact any non-financial staff that need a basic grasp of Balance Sheets, P&L Accounts and Budgeting/Costing fundamentals.

For staff who are not Excel literate, a ‘softer’ version of the course can be delivered, where ALL the required spreadsheet work is completed by the coach and then paper copies of the results are distributed for further analysis and discussion.
